Why the price tag tells you the least
A price list tells you what you pay. It does not tell you how many seconds a sale takes, whether the drawer opens with your printer, what happens when the router dies, or whether you can take your products with you if you leave. Those are the things you live with every day, for years. Two programs at the same price are two different daily routines.
Feature lists do not help much either. Every program says “inventory”, “reports”, “Arabic”. The difference is in the how: a stock screen your cashier understands, a report you really open every night, Arabic that prints right on a 58 mm roll. You only see that by using it — which is why this article ends with a one-hour test you can run on any program, ours included.

1. The counter: speed and simplicity for the cashier
The cashier uses the program a thousand times a day; you open the reports once. So judge it from the cashier's chair first:
- How many taps for an ordinary sale? Scan, scan, pay, change, print. Every extra step is repeated a thousand times a day.
- Can a new cashier sell on the first morning without you standing behind them?
- Touch and keyboard. A cashier should never be waiting for a mouse.
- A return, a discount, a void: does the cashier need you in the shop, or can you approve on the spot without anyone logging out?
PosMasr: big category buttons (with pictures if you like), one box that takes a name or a barcode, quick-cash buttons and an Exact button, the change in digits the customer reads from where they stand, the whole program from the keyboard (F1 lists the keys of the screen you are on), and the manager approves on the spot with a password or a card. Selling, in the features.
2. The printer, the drawer and the scanner
A program that does not drive your hardware is a program you will pay a technician to fight. Ask plainly: does it print on any thermal printer, or only on the one they sell? How does the drawer open — through the printer, a USB trigger, the network? And what does the program do when it does not open?
PosMasr: any 58 or 80 mm thermal printer with a Windows driver, USB or on the network; the drawer through the printer's RJ11 socket, a USB/serial trigger or a network printer; a drawer diagnostic that tries every kick command until yours opens; any USB scanner that types like a keyboard. Since desktop 5.1 the installer sets up the common USB receipt printers by itself, and a Devices tab lists what is connected. We never force special hardware. Supported hardware · The printer that sets itself up.
3. When the internet cuts
In Egypt this is not a corner case, it is a normal Tuesday. Ask exactly what works with the router switched off: selling? printing? returns? the drawer? And what happens to the sales made during the cut once the line is back?
PosMasr: the desktop edition does not need the internet to sell at all — the data is on your PC. PosMasr Cloud keeps selling and printing through the cut with a provisional receipt number, and syncs in order, nothing doubled, when the line is back. Internet down? The till keeps selling.
4. Reports you will actually open
Fifty report types you never open are worth less than three you read every night. What most shops need: today's total, by cashier, by product, by hour, the profit, and the drawer count at closing — on a screen you understand in ten seconds, and exportable to Excel for your accountant.
PosMasr: today, yesterday, this week, this month or any two dates in one tap; big tiles for sales, profit, receipts, items and the average receipt; tabs by product, day, hour and category; a filter by cashier; and any tab saves as a CSV that opens in Excel with the Arabic intact. Reports, in the features.
5. Arabic done properly
“Supports Arabic” can mean anything from a translated menu to receipts that come out as little boxes. Check three things yourself: the screens right-to-left in words a shop in Egypt uses, the receipt printed on your printer with your product names, and the Arabic surviving the trip to Excel.
PosMasr: Arabic by default and English one setting away, with the receipts and labels following; a real-size receipt preview and a test print; and when a printer driver misbehaves, the Generic / Text Only driver as a way out. When the printer prints squares.
6. Updates and support
You are not buying a thing, you are starting a relationship with whoever makes it. Ask: how do updates arrive, and do they keep my data? Who do I call, in what language, and how fast? Is there a manual with real pictures, or a PDF from another country?
PosMasr: a notice inside the program when a newer version exists; the download's SHA-256 fingerprint is checked before it installs, and an update never touches your data. Support is on WhatsApp, in Arabic; a Send diagnostics button sends one text file — no passwords, no sales, no products — and gives you a ticket number. On PosMasr Cloud the online side updates itself. Updates and support, in the manual · Genuine software and why it matters.
7. Your data: can you take it with you?
The question nobody asks on the first day: if I leave, or the company closes, what do I leave with? A good program lets you export products, customers and sales into a normal file today, without asking anyone's permission.
PosMasr: on the desktop your data lives in plain files on your PC — the sales are one text file a day that opens in Excel — with Excel (CSV) import and export of the products and a backup to a USB stick in one button. On PosMasr Cloud, Download a copy works on every plan and in every status: the whole shop in one file, in the desktop program's own backup format. And you can move between the desktop and the online edition in either direction. Your data is yours · If your POS company disappears.
8. The first day: typing products or picking them
The hidden price of any program is the week you spend typing products. Ask how products get in: one by one by hand, from an Excel sheet, from your old program, or picked from a ready list?
PosMasr: the ready catalogue of more than 52,000 products Egyptian shops sell — names, barcodes and categories, more than 18,000 of them with a picture, no prices (every shop types its own) — for the shops that share their product list; Excel import; and a migration wizard that reads your old program's file or database. That is how a shop is selling in under an hour. The ready catalogue · Import from anywhere · Free costs you your time.

A one-hour test plan for any free trial
Put the sales pitch aside. Take one real hour, your own PC, your own printer and twenty products from your own shelf, and run this. Write the times down: they are your comparison.
| Minutes | Do | Look for |
|---|---|---|
| 0–10 | Install, create the manager, choose the printer, print a test receipt | Did you need anyone? Is the Arabic right on your paper? |
| 10–20 | Add 20 products from your shelf: pick, import or type them | How many minutes for 20? Multiply by your whole shop |
| 20–30 | Connect the drawer and the scanner; scan five items, pay cash | Does the drawer open? Does every scan land in the cart? |
| 30–40 | Give the chair to someone who never saw it: ten sales, a discount, a return, a void | Did they ask you anything? How long did the ten sales take? |
| 40–45 | Pull the router's cable and keep selling | Does it sell and print? What does the screen tell the cashier? |
| 45–55 | Open today's report, filter by cashier, export to Excel, take a backup | Do the numbers match what you sold? Is the Arabic intact in Excel? |
| 55–60 | Send support a real question | How long until a person answered, in Arabic? |

Quick answers
Is the most expensive program the best one?
Not necessarily, and the cheapest is not necessarily the worst. The price tells you what you pay; the one-hour test tells you what you get. Compare the two only after you have both.
How long is the PosMasr free trial?
7 days of the desktop program with every feature of the Platinum package, no card; or 14 days of PosMasr Cloud on the Business plan, no card. What you enter carries over when you pay.
Can I test with my own printer and drawer?
That is the whole point of the trial. If something does not print or the drawer does not open, send us a message on WhatsApp during the trial — how we answer is part of the test.
My products are already in another program. Do I type them again for the trial?
No. Export them from the old program to Excel or CSV and import them, or let the migration wizard read the old program's file. See moving from another program.
What should make me walk away from any program?
No way to export your data into a normal file; it runs only on the seller's own hardware; or nobody answers you during the trial, when they most want your money. Any one of the three is enough.
