Why we care which copy you run

A till program is not a game on a home PC. It opens the drawer, keeps the credit book, knows what every cashier sold and, on many shops, sends the e-receipts. When it misbehaves, the shop loses money and the owner loses sleep — and the name people remember is the program's. That is why we send every copy ourselves, issue every key ourselves, and answer for both.

We already wrote about what “free” POS software really costs, cracked copies included. This article takes the other side: not why a cracked copy is a bad deal, but how to know that yours is genuine — and what you get because it is.

What an unofficial copy risks for the shop

This is about any program, not about any person. A copy that was cracked, “activated” with a borrowed key, or repackaged by someone else carries the same five risks, whoever handed it over and whatever they believed:

1. Malware. The crack is itself a program written by a stranger, usually run as administrator — on the PC that holds your sales and your customers' phone numbers. That is exactly how keyloggers and ransomware get in.
2. Lost data. A modified program writes your database with changes nobody tested. If a day's sales go missing, there is nobody who can tell you why.
3. No updates. The first update either fails or undoes the crack, so the shop stays on an old version with old bugs — and misses every fix and every new feature after it.
4. No support. When the drawer stops opening on a Friday evening, there is no licence to look up and no one whose job it is to answer.
5. A licence that stops. A trick that works today can stop the day something changes: a Windows reinstall, a new disk, an update. The shop finds out at the counter, with a customer waiting.

Where the genuine PosMasr comes from

There are only a few doors, and all of them lead back to us:

• The desktop program — from the request page on posmasr.com or from our WhatsApp. We send every customer their own copy directly, with a person to help set it up; there are no public download links, precisely so that no tampered file circulates under our name.
• An authorised partner in your area can install it for you — but even then the key is not theirs to make. Partners send us the machine code and we issue the key; nobody outside PosMasr has the key generator, partners included. How partners work.
• PosMasr Cloud — the account at app.posmasr.com, and the till app from the download page. Or the desktop program in cloud mode, whose link is inside the app after you sign up.

And the free route is already official: 7 days of the desktop program with every feature, no card, and everything you enter carries over when you activate — or 14 days online. There is no reason to look for a “free full version” anywhere else.

How to check that your copy is genuine

A PosMasr licence is not a password you type anywhere. It is a key we issue for one machine code, and it works only on the machine it was issued for. That makes the check simple:

1. Open Settings → License. It shows whether you are on the trial and how many days are left, or which package is active, and your machine code (PM-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX).
2. Ask yourself one question: did this machine code ever reach PosMasr? From you, or from the partner who installed it. If the program was “already activated” when it arrived and nobody ever sent us that code, something is wrong.
3. Not sure? Press Send on WhatsApp in the same tab and ask us. It costs you one message.

The trial is honest in both directions too: its counter is stored encrypted and tied to the machine, so changing the Windows date does not reset it — and when it ends it deletes nothing. You see the activation screen, and everything is where you left it.

Updates that keep your data

A genuine copy updates through the program itself, so you never need to download an “update” from anywhere else. Once a day it checks whether a newer version exists and tells you what is new. In Settings you choose Ask me (the default), Automatic or Never. Before a downloaded update installs, the program checks its SHA-256 fingerprint — a file changed on the way does not match and is not installed.

Updating never touches your data: the products, sales and settings live in their own folder, outside the program's, and running a newer Setup over the old one keeps everything. Updates, in the manual.

Support that knows your licence

Support is on WhatsApp, in Arabic, from the people who make the program. Two things make it fast, and both work only on a genuine copy:

• Send diagnostics (Settings → Support): write what happened, and one text file goes up — version, Windows, printers and drawer settings, the last log lines; no passwords, no sales, no products. You get a ticket number to quote on WhatsApp.
• Sharing the version and licence state (on by default, and you can switch it off) sends once a day the machine code, package and version, so we can see your licence page the moment you call.

A new PC: moving the licence without drama

Because the licence is tied to the PC, people worry about the day the PC changes. It is a planned path, written on the prices page:

• The old PC still works: press Release the license on it (Settings → Tests → License status). It shows a release code. Send it with the new PC's machine code and you get the new key right away, free.
• The old PC died: there is no release code, so the transfer is done on a written declaration, once a year; further transfers in the same year cost 20% of the package.
• Your data moves with the built-in backup: back up to a USB stick, restore on the new PC. Moving to a new PC, step by step.
• Growing into a bigger package is a new key for the same PC: you pay the difference between the packages and your data stays as it is. Start small, upgrade later.

PosMasr Cloud: nothing to crack

The online edition answers the question differently. There is no key: a till is paired to your account with a 6-digit code from the Tills page, the online side updates itself so it is always the latest version, a backup is taken every day, and Download a copy on every plan gives you your whole shop in normal files whenever you want.
