A shop owner thinking about a question

Using PosMasr Online? Every screen is explained step by step in the Online manual.

A happy till PC working with no internet

General

Internet, subscription, Windows and watching from the phone

Does the program need internet?

No. It works completely offline. Your data lives in files on your own PC.

Is there a monthly subscription?

Your choice. The program on your PC is a one-time licence per till, from 2,450 EGP, after a free 14-day trial. PosMasr Online runs online on any device, by the month from 499 EGP, with the first year 20% off with the code AHLAN20 — see the PosMasr Online questions below.

Which Windows does it run on?

Windows 7 and up, 32 or 64-bit, with no complicated installation. Windows 8.1/10/11 need nothing extra; on Windows 7 install .NET Framework 4.8 once (free from Microsoft). It's light enough for older PCs.

Can I watch the shop from my phone while I'm away?

Yes (version 1.3). The program has a small built-in web server: open its address on your phone — on the shop Wi-Fi, or from anywhere after forwarding one port on the router — log in with the manager account and see today's sales, latest receipts, best sellers, low stock, expiring products, credit owed and the kitchen queue. View-only, refreshes by itself, and it can run over HTTPS with your own SSL certificate. The settings tab has one-click checks that tell you exactly what to fix (firewall, router…). Try the live demo: one button and you're in.

Discounts, returns, shifts, tables, VAT — does it do those?

Yes, since 1.4 — all optional and off by default (Settings → Features): line/receipt discounts with a cashier limit and sale prices; partial returns with refunds; shifts with a float, cash in/out and a Z report; split cash+card; a VAT line; selling by weight with scale barcodes; sizes & add-ons; tables and held orders; product pictures; supplier invoices and expenses with net profit; daily automatic backup and a daily Telegram/e-mail summary.

Do products have expiry dates?

Yes (1.2). Each product can carry an expiry date; the inventory shows it, an “Expiring soon” tab lists what expires within 3–60 days, and the manager gets a red badge plus a once-a-day reminder.

Can I keep suppliers and clients?

Yes (1.2). One switch in Settings adds a Suppliers & clients page, a client button on the sale (the client is printed on the receipt) and a supplier button when receiving stock, with a deliveries history per supplier.

Arabic or English?

Both. Arabic is the default; switch in Settings → General.

Can I put my shop's name and logo on it?

Yes. Settings → General: brand name and logo. They appear on the window, receipts and labels.

How many products or receipts can it hold?

Practically unlimited for a small or medium shop.

A till with a printer, a drawer and a barcode scanner

Hardware

Printer, drawer, scanner, labels and the screen

Which printers does it support?

Any thermal printer with a Windows driver, 58 or 80 mm. Pick it in Settings → Printer, then Tests → Test print.

Can it open the cash drawer?

Yes — through the printer (RJ11) or a COM port. The Tests tab has a diagnostic that tries every kick command.

Does it work with a barcode scanner?

Yes: scan to sell, and scan to receive stock. Any USB scanner that types like a keyboard.

Can I print barcode labels?

Yes — multiple sizes including pharmacy split labels and 3-across rolls, and a print-all button.

Do I need a touch screen?

No. It's designed for touch, but works perfectly with a mouse.

A cashier smiling as she rings up a sale by touch

Selling

Cashiers, e-receipts, wholesale, credit and the kitchen

Does it have cashier accounts?

Yes: a manager plus cashiers, and every receipt records who sold it. Since 2.0 you can grant or revoke any single right per cashier (reports, inventory, void, returns, expenses…); anything they lack still works with the manager's password.

Does it do the ETA e-receipt?

Yes, as an option in the Platinum package. Once your shop is enrolled in the e-receipt system, you open your taxpayer profile on the ETA portal, choose “Register ERP system”, type PosMasr and a validity period, and the portal gives you a client ID and secret on the spot — enter them in Settings, give each product its GS1 or EGS code, and every receipt is submitted automatically, queued when offline, and printed with the ETA QR code. No certified device and no USB token are needed for receipts; the electronic seal is used for enrolment and B2B e-invoices.

Why do I need to share my list to use the catalogue?

Because the catalogue is made of shared lists: its 52,548 products are there because shops shared theirs, so it is open to the shops that share theirs too. Sharing means Settings → Backup → A copy at PosMasr is on (products list or full backup), Upload automatically once a day is ticked, and Do not use my products in the shared catalogue is not ticked. Only product data is shared — names, barcodes, categories, prices and costs — never your sales, customers, users or passwords, and the catalogue never says which shop sells what. Stop sharing whenever you like: everything already in your program stays, including the pictures on your products; you just can no longer pick from the catalogue, use the barcode lookup or scan to add at the till. How the catalogue works →

What if I scan a pack that is not in my products?

Since 4.1, if your shop shares its product list and the ready catalogue knows the barcode, a small window opens with the catalogue's picture, name and category and an empty price box: type your price, then Enter adds it and sells it, F2 only adds it, Esc cancels. The catalogue never supplies a price, and a cashier without the right to manage products needs a manager's approval. Otherwise you get the usual “not found”. It works with no internet. Scan to add in the manual →

I don't have a barcode reader — can I still manage stock?

Yes. From the owner portal on your phone you can count a stock-take, add products and receive stock, scanning barcodes with the phone camera (Chrome on Android over HTTPS) or simply typing the code.

Can I bring my product list from Excel?

Yes — Settings → Products → Import (CSV). Export first to get the template, fill it in Excel, save as CSV UTF-8 and import; existing products update and blank cells keep their values. Colour/size variants, service charge, VAT with Egypt's 14% and A4 invoices are also there since 2.0.

Can the customer see the order on a screen of their own?

Yes, since 2.1 (Silver package or higher). Plug a second monitor into the till PC, set Windows to Extend, and tick Customer display in Settings → Features: the customer sees every line with quantity, price and total as it is rung up, the grand total, and after paying the amount paid and the change — like the screens at the big chains.

Can I sell wholesale and retail from the same till?

Yes, since 2.2 (Gold or higher): switch on Price levels, give products a wholesale price, and tap Retail / Wholesale before the sale — or mark a client as a wholesale client and the switch happens by itself.

Can the customer pay with InstaPay or a wallet?

Yes: save your account's QR as a picture, pick it in Settings → Features, and it shows on the customer display while the order is rung up (and on the receipt if you want). The customer scans it with their phone; the money goes straight to your account, the program just shows the code.

I have an older copy with products in it — do I type them again?

No. Since 2.3, Settings → Products → Import from an old copy finds older PosMasr / CSG POS copies on the PC (or you browse to the old products.txt) and brings over the new products and the changed prices from any version since 1.0. Your current products, cashiers, settings and sales are not touched.

Two tills in one shop?

Since 2.2: one primary and one secondary over the shop's network. The secondary gets the products, stock and clients from the primary and sends it every receipt; if the network drops the receipts queue and go through later. The second license is 40% off.

Does it support selling on credit?

Yes, with a who-owes screen, repayments, and printed statements per customer.

Does card payment connect to the bank terminal?

The Card button records the sale as paid by card and prints it on the receipt. Direct integration with a bank terminal depends on the bank and the machine model and isn't part of the program.

Is there a kitchen screen?

Yes — on the same PC or another PC over your Wi-Fi/LAN. See the kitchen screen page.

Your data kept in a safe on your own PC

Data & license

Where your data is, backups, activation and moving to a new PC

Where is my data?

In plain text files in the data folder on your PC — never on the internet. You can even open them in Excel.

What if the computer breaks?

Use the built-in backup to a USB flash drive, then restore on the new PC — all or just the parts you choose.

How do I buy a licence for the program?

Pick your package on the prices page and press “Buy by card”. An e-mail brings you the download link and an activation link. Open the program → Settings → Tests → License status, copy the machine code, paste it into the activation page and the key appears. Can't pay by card? Message us on WhatsApp and we send you the same e-mail.

How do I activate?

Settings → Tests → License status shows a machine code. Bought by card? Paste it into the activation link from your e-mail and the key appears. Otherwise send it to us and we send back a key. Type the key in: permanent, for that machine.

Can I move to a new PC later?

Yes. Back up to a flash drive, release the license on the old PC (it gives you an RL code), install on the new one, restore, and send us the RL code with the new machine code for the new key. A second till and moving only the products to another shop each have their own order — the three walkthroughs, with what comes back and what does not, are in section 34 of the manual.

A shop owner, the till, a laptop and a phone on the same online shop

PosMasr Online

The online edition: what it is, the internet, the price, your data and leaving

Can I sell from my phone's browser?

You can manage everything from the phone's browser, but taking payments needs a till: the till app on a computer, or the PosMasr Till app on an Android tablet or handheld. The demo is the only place that sells in the browser. Start, step by step.

Where do I set the receipt printer?

On the till, not in the browser: open the till app on the computer the printer is plugged into, then Settings → Devices. On Windows the common USB receipt printers set themselves up. How.

How do I add a cashier?

Team → Users → New cashier account: a name, a password and a preset of rights. Each person gets their own account, so every receipt carries a name. Staff, step by step.

What is the difference between Settings → Modules and Billing → Plan?

Settings → Modules switches the parts your plan already includes on or off, for free. Billing → Plan is where the owner changes the plan or buys an add-on by the month. Add-ons and modules.

What happens when the 14-day trial ends?

You pick a plan on Billing → Plan. Nothing you entered is lost; until you pay the shop is read-only — reports and exports keep working.

What is PosMasr Online, and how is it different from the program I know?

The same till, online. The cashier still sells on a PC in the shop with the same screens, printer and drawer; the difference is that the shop lives online: you open it from any browser on a computer, phone or tablet with nothing to set up, it updates itself and is backed up every day, a new till is paired in a minute, every till shares products and stock live, and branches sit under one account. By the month from 499 EGP, 14 days free. The PosMasr Online page →

If the internet drops, does the till stop?

No. The till keeps your products, prices, customers and cashier logins on the PC; when the line drops it sells, prints and opens the drawer as usual, with a provisional receipt number, and when the line is back the receipts sync in order — nothing doubled. Only the management pages (editing products, settings, reports, the phone) wait for the line. How it works, in the manual → · When the internet cuts →

How much is it?

Five plans per shop per month: Basic 499 (1 till, 2 users, up to 300 products), Cashier 999 (credit, shifts and cash control), Shop 1,999 (2 tills, stock, suppliers, labels, scale), Business 2,500 (4 tills, kitchen, tables, e-receipts, and the online menu, table ordering and online shop), Chain 5,000 plus 750 for each extra branch. With the code AHLAN20 the first 12 months are 20% off every plan, add-on and branch (Basic 399, Cashier 799, Shop 1,599, Business 2,000, Chain 4,000). The ready catalogue, the phone dashboard and daily backups are in every plan; on Cashier and Shop the online features are add-ons: online menu 100, table QR ordering 100, online shop 300 a month. The plans →

How do I get the first-year discount?

Type the code AHLAN20 when you sign up, or on the Billing page before your first payment: the first 12 months of your subscription are then 20% off — every plan, add-on and extra branch. With the code Basic is 399 instead of 499 EGP a month, Cashier 799 instead of 999, Shop 1,599 instead of 1,999, Business 2,000 instead of 2,500, Chain 4,000 instead of 5,000; after that the regular price. One code per shop, and the discount is never added by itself: without a code you pay the regular price.

Can guests see my menu and order from the table on their phones?

Yes, on PosMasr Online. The online menu lives at posmasr.com/menu/your-shop with the till's own prices; a QR code on each table lets the guest order, call the waiter or ask for the bill, your staff confirm, the kitchen gets it, and the table keeps one bill until it pays — payment stays with your staff, at the table or the counter. The online shop at posmasr.com/shop/your-shop takes orders with cash on delivery. Included in Business and Chain, add-ons on Cashier and Shop. How it works →

How do I pay, and what if I am late?

By card through Stripe (renews by itself; remove the card any time) — or, if you can't pay by card, contact us and we agree another way. If a payment is late you get 7 days of grace, then the shop is read-only until you pay: no new sales, but every report, receipt and export still works, and the tills come back within a second of the payment.

What do I need in the shop?

A computer per till — the PosMasr Online app on Windows 10 or 11 (Mac and Linux as a preview), or the PosMasr program in cloud mode on Windows 7 and up — an internet line with a phone hotspot as a fallback, and your usual hardware: any thermal printer, a drawer, a USB scanner, a scale, a customer display. Phones and tablets open every management page in the browser, with nothing to install.

Can it answer my shop's WhatsApp and take orders?

Soon: the AI Front Desk comes with the next update as an add-on on Business and Chain (750 EGP a month). It answers on your own WhatsApp Business number from your real products, prices, stock and hours, understands voice notes and photos of a list, and places an order or a booking only when the customer confirms — or hands the chat to your staff.

Can I switch off the parts I don't use?

Yes, in PosMasr Online: Settings → Modules shows each module of your plan — stock, customers, Books, HR, bookings, the online shop, procurement, warehouses, projects, fixed assets — with a switch. Off hides its pages from the menus and the quick search, and nothing is deleted. Managers switch them per branch; Sales and Till is always on. How it works.

Does it handle purchasing approvals and several warehouses?

Yes, online. Procurement: purchase requests with approval amounts per branch, quotes from several suppliers by link, delivery notes and the supplier invoice matched with the order and the delivery. Warehouses: store rooms, a central warehouse, a van, transfers tracked in transit, batches and serials. Both are in Business and Chain, and come to Shop as add-ons: Procurement 300 and Warehouses 300 EGP a month, bought by the owner on Billing → Plan. From till to ERP.

Can it run projects for a contractor or a fit-out company?

Yes, online, with Projects: each long job with a customer, a site, a contract value and a budget split into phases; tasks on a board; the team's hours from the phone with a weekly timesheet; costs from expenses, stock and suppliers; invoices by milestone, progress or time and materials, with retention and advances, through Books or the customer's account; budget against actual and the margin per project. It is not job orders — those stay the counter tickets of days. In Business and Chain; an add-on for Shop at 300 EGP a month. Projects · The article.

Does it keep fixed assets and their depreciation?

Yes, online, with Fixed assets: a register with barcode tag labels, monthly depreciation posted to Books after a preview (straight line or declining balance), a sale or disposal with its gain or loss, transfers between branches, and asset counts by scanning the tags with the phone. It needs Books, so it is part of Business and Chain (for Shop it is listed as an add-on at 200 EGP a month, usable once Books is there). Books' old asset page moved into it with the same book values. Fixed assets · The article.

Does the program on my PC have purchase requests and approvals?

Yes, from desktop 5.7.0 in the Gold package (and Platinum): purchase requests with approvals, the order from the request, receiving, the supplier's invoice matched with the order and the deliveries, “Invoices to check”, supplier ageing and a Procurement home — on one PC, offline (Settings → Features → Procurement). Quotes from several suppliers by link are in PosMasr Online only. Download · The article.

Do you connect to Daftra, Zoho, Xero or QuickBooks?

Soon. The connections are built and switch on one by one as we finish each program's set-up: the day's sales journal per branch, customers on credit, their invoices, credit notes and payments go to the program by themselves, each once. Daftra connects with your own Daftra API key. Part of Business and Chain. Until then the accountant's export (Excel and CSV) works on every plan that has it. Connections.

Can customers pay by card online?

Soon, with your own Paymob account: “Pay online (card / wallet)” in the online shop beside cash on delivery, and a “Pay now” link from the credit book for what a customer owes. The order counts as paid only after Paymob confirms it. Paymob's fees are your contract with Paymob; we charge nothing per payment. Part of Business and Chain. Paymob.

Can I use an Android tablet as the till?

Yes: PosMasr Till for Android runs the same online till on Android 9+ tablets and handhelds (Samsung, Sunmi, iMin), sells offline, prints on USB, Bluetooth, network or built-in receipt printers, and uses the camera as a scanner. Download it · more in the article.

Can I try it with products and sales already in it?

Yes. In a new shop, “Try with sample data” fills it with products, customers, suppliers and 25 days of receipts of your kind of shop, so every report and alert has something to show; one click removes exactly that, and your first real receipt is still number 1. How it works.

Does it work on a Mac or on Linux?

PosMasr Online, yes: every management page opens in the browser on any computer, and the PosMasr Online app sells at the till on a Mac (macOS 14 Sonoma and newer) or a Linux PC (Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 13, Mint 22 and newer) — a preview for now, from the download page. The PosMasr desktop program (the offline edition) runs on Windows only.

How does a till connect to my account?

Settings → Tills → “Connect a till” in the browser shows a 6-digit code valid for 10 minutes; type it in the till program with a name for that till, and it appears online in the list within a second. The code is typed on the till, never sent to anyone. A lost PC is revoked from the same page.

Where is my data, and can I take it and leave?

On servers outside Egypt: Amazon Web Services in Milan, Italy (European Union), backed up every day, reached only over an encrypted connection. Accepting the Terms of service means you agree to this storage and processing outside your country; the providers that help us are listed in the privacy policy. Settings → Data → “Download a copy” gives you everything in one file — the desktop program's own backup format, the way back to the one-time edition — on every plan, even after you stop paying, and the same page deletes the account when you want. Is my data safe online? → · Your data is yours →

I already own the desktop program — can I move online, or go back later?

Both ways. In the desktop program, Settings → Backup → “Move to PosMasr Cloud…” makes one file with your products and their pictures, customers, stock and history; upload it when you sign up (or later in Settings → Data) and the online shop starts from it (the plan that matches your package is pre-selected). To go back, download the desktop backup from Settings → Data and restore it on the PC. Moving, step by step →

Which should I choose — on my PC or online?

One shop with one or two tills, you want it to run with no internet ever, and you would rather own the program: the licence on your PC. Not always in the shop, several devices or branches, tills you want to add in a minute, and no backups or updates to think about: online. Both have a free trial, and your data moves between them either way. The side-by-side → · Which one fits your shop · How to choose a POS
