How much does a POS system cost in Egypt? Subscription vs one-time, and the fees nobody prints

The price you see on a POS vendor's page is rarely the price you pay. Some charge per month, some per till, some per user, some are “free” until you need the one feature that isn't. Here is how to compare them honestly — over three years, all-in — and what PosMasr charges, with nothing left out.

Cost comparison of a monthly subscription and a one-time license

The three pricing models you will meet

Every POS offer in Egypt is one of these, or a mix:

  • Monthly subscription (cloud): you pay every month for as long as you use it; the data usually lives on the vendor's servers; the program needs the internet to work fully. The number looks small — 250, 400, 800 pounds a month — and it never stops.
  • One-time license: you pay once per till and own the right to use that version; the data lives on your PC; support and major upgrades may or may not be included — ask.
  • “Free”: a free tier with limits (items, receipts, one user, ads), a free app tied to a payment provider that takes a cut of every card sale, or free software that only runs on the vendor's hardware.

None of these is a scam. Each one just puts the cost in a different place — and the only fair way to compare them is to add everything up over the same period. Three years is a good period: it is how long a till PC lasts, and long enough for the small monthly number to show its real size.

The 3-year table — same shop, four ways to pay

One till, one shop, 36 months. The subscription figures are illustrative round numbers in the range we hear from shop owners — not any specific vendor's list — and the setup and hardware lines are typical Egyptian market figures (September 2026, indicative). PosMasr's figures are our real launch prices.

Chart of POS software cost over 3 years: monthly subscriptions versus a one-time license
Software only, one till, 36 months. A 300-pound subscription overtakes the Gold package in month 29; a 600-pound one in month 15.

What “free” really costs

Free software is paid for somehow. The three usual ways, and what to check before you rely on it:

  • Limits. 50 products, 100 receipts a month, one user, no reports export. The day you cross one, the “upgrade” price is rarely on the free page. Ask for it on day one.
  • A cut of your sales. Apps bundled with a payment terminal live on the percentage. Half a percent of 20,000 pounds of card sales a month is 1,200 a year — quietly, forever.
  • Your data. On someone else's server, exportable only in the paid tier, or not at all. Before typing 2,000 products into anything, find the export button.
The one question that sorts them all: “If I stop paying you next month, what still works?” A good answer is specific. A vague answer is the price.

The hidden fees — where the pricing page stops

FeeHow it shows upWhat to ask
Per tillThe price is per “device” or “register”; the second till doubles it“What does the second till cost, and does it share the stock?”
Per userEach cashier login is a seat with its own monthly fee“How many cashier accounts are included?”
SupportFree for 30 days, then a yearly “maintenance” contract“What is support after the first month, and how do I reach you?”
ModulesInventory, credit, kitchen screen, tax each a separate add-on“Which of these features are in the price I'm looking at?”
Hardware lock-inRuns only on the vendor's tablet or terminal; your PC and printer are “not supported”“Will it run on the PC and printer I already have?”
Data export / exitExport is a paid feature, or a request that takes weeks“Can I export products, customers and sales to Excel, today?”
Internet dependenceNo internet, no sales — or a “limited offline mode”“What exactly works when the internet is down?”

Hardware: the other half of the bill

Software is usually the smaller half. A working till needs a PC or all-in-one, a thermal printer, a drawer and — for most shops — a scanner. Indicative September 2026 street prices in Egypt (they move with the dollar):

  • Reuse what you have: any Windows 7+ PC, even an old office machine — ≈ 0. Add a used 80 mm printer (Xprinter, Rongta) ≈ 1,500 – 2,500 and a drawer ≈ 800 – 1,500.
  • A sensible new set: a small PC or mini-PC + monitor, an Xprinter / Gprinter 80 mm printer, drawer and a 1D or 2D scanner — ≈ 12,000 – 20,000 all in.
  • A touch all-in-one (generic Chinese, Posiflex, Sunmi-style Windows units) — ≈ 15,000 – 35,000 for the unit alone, printer and drawer extra.

The expensive mistake is buying hardware the software forces on you. A tablet that only runs one vendor's app is worth nothing the day you leave them; a Windows PC and a standard printer work with the next program too. We wrote a whole article on the cheapest setup that actually works: the cheapest POS setup for a small shop.

What PosMasr charges — the whole list

We sell a one-time license per till PC, no subscription, and we publish every number on the pricing page. Launch prices, valid until 15 October 2026:

PackageLaunch priceAfter 15 OctoberFor
Silver4,900 EGP5,900 EGPSell, print, drawer, cash/card/credit, daily reports, backup — a kiosk, canteen or small counter
Gold8,500 EGP9,900 EGP+ inventory, profit, suppliers, credit statements, labels, kitchen screen and every optional feature — most shops
Platinum12,900 EGP14,900 EGP+ the phone dashboard from anywhere, inventory and management from the phone, ETA e-receipts
  • Per till, one-time. Nothing renews, nothing expires, nobody can switch it off remotely. It runs offline on Windows 7 and up.
  • Second till: 40% off the package price (Gold or Platinum); the two share products, stock and clients over the shop network. Kitchen screens are covered by the till's license.
  • Users: a manager plus as many cashier accounts as you want, in every package. No seats.
  • Setup: normally a separate service; free during the launch offer — we install, connect the printer, drawer and scanner, enter your products and train the cashiers.
  • Upgrades between packages: you pay the difference and get a new key for the same machine; data stays.
  • Moving to a new PC: release the license on the old one and get a new key free; if the old PC died with no release code, one transfer a year on a written declaration.
  • Hardware: sold separately, and never forced — use what you have or ask us for a quote.
  • Trial: 7 days, the full Platinum package, no card, no sign-up; your data carries over when you activate.

So the honest 3-year total for a typical shop on Gold, one till, is 8,500 pounds — plus whatever hardware you choose to buy, which you would have bought for any system.

Quick answers

Is a one-time license really cheaper if I also want updates?
The program tells you when a new version is out; you run the new setup over the old one and your data stays where it is. Moving up to a bigger package costs the difference between the packages, nothing more.

What if my shop grows and I need the phone dashboard later?
Pay the difference between Gold and Platinum, get a new key for the same PC, done. No reinstall, no data migration.

Are there any recurring fees at all with PosMasr?
No. No subscription, no per-user seats, no support contract to keep it running. Setup is a separate one-time service (free during the launch offer) and hardware is whatever you buy.

Why is the second till 40% off and not free?
It is a second full installation with its own license, synchronising with the primary over the network. The discount reflects that the products, clients and setup are already done.

Can I try before paying anything?
Yes — 7 days of the full Platinum package, no card. Request a copy on the download page.
